A warm, luxurious treat is exactly what you need on a cool, winters evening. If creating winter desserts to impress your friends isn’t your strength and you are looking for something super simple yet also impressive, then give poached pears a go! Pears are in season at the moment and Tassie has many growers providing the perfect poaching pears.
You may be surprised that fancy poached pears are actually super simple to make. You can spruce them up as you like by adding spices and flavours, or simply put them in the faithful hands of your wine. Just pears and wine works a treat!
What you need:
– enough pears for 1 each
– 500ml (2 cups) dry red wine
– 70g (1/3 cup) caster sugar
– 2 whole star anise
– 2 x 7cm cinnamon sticks
– 1 vanilla bean, split
What to do:
Peel the skins of the pears.
Place the wine and other ingredients in a saucepan. Once hot and the sugar is dissolved, reduce the heat and add the pears.
Allow to simmer for about 1 hr, turning the pears once or twice.
Serve with your condement of choice.
