We’re here to help!

Below you’ll find some of the more commonly asked questions about our products and how they work.

Beeswax Wraps

What is a beeswax wrap?

A beeswax wrap is a sustainable alternative to plastic wrap.  Fabric is covered with a liquid wax, tree resin and oil mixture which has been warmed. Once the liquid mixture cools it creates a seal around the fabric, which acts as an air barrier to slow oxidation.  They keep your food fresh for longer and the beeswax has anti-microbial properties. It is bio-degradable and hence reduces landfill in a world where we’re striving for a plastic-free planet.

How do I use it?

How do I care for my wrap?

To clean, run your wrap under lukewarm water (we suggest not submerging it under water) and gently scrub clean with a cloth and detergent.

Beeswax wraps can be used in the fridge/freezer, however, it’s best to allow the wrap to come to room temperature before removing it to minimise cracks in the wax that may occur when trying to remove if while to pliable.

Do not contact wraps with raw meat as we cannot guarantee sanitation.

Do not microwave wraps or use extreme heat, this will cause the beeswax to melt.  It is advised to always let casserole dishes and other cooking vessels that have been in the oven to cool completely before applying your wrap.  If you find a waxy residue on a bowl or dish simply use boiling water to clean the residue off.

Store your wraps at room temperature, folded in a draw or rolled on a paper-towel dispenser. Wraps can last 6-12 months depending on how well they are looked after. At the end of your wraps life it can be shredded and placed in the compost.

DO IT YOURSELF – DIY KIt

How do I make my own wraps?

We’ve got a handy, and FREE, instructions page to make your very own wraps. You’ll just need to purchase a block of DIY Beeswax Wrap wax mix.  You can find it here.  There are three ingredients; wax, tree resin and oil. You can make it yourself but some of the ingredients are hard to find in small quantities and it can be a messy job; so we thought we would sort that tricky bit for you!

How many wraps does it make?

Your SUSTOMi 150g DIY mix will make approximately 8 sandwich wraps.

What other equipment do I need?

You will need a grater, cotton fabric, iron, newspaper, and baking paper.  The grater can be easily cleaned with boiling water.

Silicone Food Covers

How do I use them?
  • They work best on glass or glazed bowls and glasses, plates may not work so well.
  • Choose a cover that is about the same width as the diameter of the bowl/cup.
  • Ensure the cover and the rim is completely dry, free of oil, dressings, residue etc.
  • The bumps need to be facing upwards, allowing the smooth surface to ‘stick’ to the bowl. The bumps can happily stretch to around 1cm apart.
  • Holding each side of the cover catch the rim of the bowl closest to you and then stretch the cover wide and forward by your spreading fingers.
  • Use your thumbs on top to then push the far edge over the rim of the bowl.
  • You may need to place one hand over the cover to secure it for a moment and gently stretch some sections of the cover wider to catch the rim of the bowl.

Silicone covers may also be used as an alternative to baking paper and aluminum foil. They are heat proof up to 260 degrees centigrade. They’re great underneath grilled open sandwiches and fruit buns. You can also place them loosely over the top of bowls or left-overs to when you microwave them.  Please be careful not to microwave a dish with the silicone cover stretched tightly over as the steam pressure may cause damage or burns when removing.

Are they suitable for everyone?

Silicone food covers do require you to be able to stretch them over bowls, therefore silicone covers may not be suitable for you if you have conditions such as arthritis, or for children.

How to get the most out of your silicone covers?

Use them in lots of ways, over and over again! Great in the pantry, fridge, freezer, microwave, grill and oven. Wash and dry them well, and store folded in half smooth sides facing. Avoid long finger nails, sharp jewellery or sharp edges from cracked bowls and cups.

How do I store my silicone food covers?

When storing the covers we suggest folding them in half with the flat surfaces facing each other, this will keep dust, crumbs, grease and moisture off them – ready for their next use!

How do I clean them?

Silicone covers are dishwasher safe and can be scrubbed in a sink with detergent.  We suggest washing them at the beginning of your washing up so the water is nice and hot, and clean, similar to how you might wash glass. The residual heat will help them to dry quickly.

Silicone Food Pouches

How do I use them?

You can use your food pouches to do keep food fresh in the fridge or freezer, and you can even microwave them and heat them up in the oven up to 230 degrees. Be sure to completely remove the slide off the top before heating!

The food pouches are safe to use with any food including raw meat, making them great for marinating.

You can store liquids, chopped vegetables, and also non-food items in them easily. Provided the slide is secured well they are leak-proof and great for transporting foods.

Washable paper lunch bag

Is the lunch bag water-proof?

The main material of our lunch bags is a clever blend of paper and silicone, meaning it’s water resistant! The seams are also bound meaning any sneaky tomatoes that escape from your sandwich are unlikely to contaminate your bag!  You cannot store liquids directly in the lunch bag.

Is the lunch bag insulated?

Unfortunately, our lunch bags are not insulated.

How do I clean my lunch bag?

You can completely submerge your lunch bag in a sink with hot water and detergent, then leave it to dry. You can also simply get a cloth and wipe it as much as you like.  Do not soak the lunch bag as the metal components will likely not enjoy long exposure to water.
